Kepler-186f Empty Kepler-186f

Thu Sep 07, 2017 2:22 pm
The Kepler Space telescope of NASA made an amazing discovery, when they discovered a planet that was first Earth-sized and was found orbiting a star in the "habitable zone", distance from star where the chances of existence of water is highly likely on the surface. With the discovery of Kepler-186f, the existence of planets that were habitable, was confirmed. The size of these habitable planets are found to be 40% larger than Earth but their composition is unknown. Still that planet is estimated to be a rocky one.
The location of Kepler-186 is in the constellation Cygnus that is 500 light years away from the Earth, in the Kepler 186 system. The star around which this planet orbits is classified as M dwarf, or red dwarf, it is one of the class of stars that makes 70% of our milky way galaxy. The planet Kepler-186 complete one orbit in 130 days and receive 1/3rd part of energy from it's star that the Earth receive from the sun. The chemical composition of this planet and the search for distant life has to take place yet. NASA is contributing in this search along with it's many associated is contributing in this research.
